Dr. Meeta Cardon is an Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Division of Child Neurology at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Cardon is a native of Houston, Texas but first discovered her career interest while working to understand the development of the peripheral nervous system in Drosophila (fruit flies) at Vanderbilt University. She then tried to leave the neurosciences for medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with her eyes on a career in pediatrics. Dr. Cardon ultimately found her clinical home in the combination of the two disciplines. She completed Child Neurology residency at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children?s Hospital followed by a Neuromuscular fellowship at Stanford University School of Medicine. She practiced for 3 years in Austin, Texas with Child Neurology Consultants of Austin where she was Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinical Care Center for Central Texas and Affiliate Faculty at the University of Texas Dell Medical School. She pioneered treatment programs in the region for the care of Spinal Muscular Atrophy patients. She is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Child Neurology and Neuromuscular Medicine as well as by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine in Electromyography.

In her free time, Dr. Cardon enjoys spending time with her family, exploring New Mexico, and unsuccessfully trying to convince her husband that her life--and their childrens? lives--is best spent with two feet planted on the ground.
